River House floats to victory in LABC awards
One of our projects - The River House in Shrewsbury - has beaten off tough competition to win the Best Extension or Alteration to an Existing Home category at the regional LABC (Local Authority Building Control) Building Excellence Award.
The win was revealed at a ceremony at the International Centre in Telford on June 8 and presented to our Associate Ben Embrey, who worked on the scheme.
We'll now be heading to London for the national finals in November in the hope of scooping the national title!
About the River House
The River House occupies a prominent position on the riverside in Shrewsbury and the scheme was designed with the aim of capitalising on the amazing views.
As it stood, the house didn't meet its full potential in terms of location and visual potential so, before we drew up the design, we carefully assessed how we could enhance the house in its setting, taking full advantage of its unique location.
The final scheme involved a striking two-storey river frontage extension incorporating a new kitchen and bedroom on the first floor. We used chunky timber sections with large areas of glazing on the extension to create the contemporary look required. We also remodelled the general arrangement of the interior to improve the flow of the property and to make it better suit the living requirements of a modern family.
We also carried out the redesign of the interior through our Base Interiors arm, creating a luxury feel that befits this stunning home.
About the LABC Awards
The awards are the largest business-to-business scheme in the building control sector and recognises firms like ours that have made an outstanding contribution to technical and construction excellence.
LABC's Chief Executive Paul Everall said: "The awards are an opportunity for us to celebrate some of the very best in construction in England and Wales, recognising the high level of quality and skill we can and do reach in the UK."
