base Architecture is involved in working with conservation areas, world heritage sites and listed buildings. Where appropriate, our work is in keeping with the original language of the property.
However, as Architects we evaluate the relevance of our response and if necessary can produce sympathetic contemporary buildings which balance with the historical context. We believe that negotiating early within the design process with the relevant conservation bodies is essential.
It is important that detail is considered from the outset along with the historical reference of the actual property. Developing a comprehensive brief is important as it allows the Local Authority and English Heritage to appreciate the depth of thought and consideration an important structure requires. Our design and access statements capture this process assisting all parties at the planning and listed building stages.
