Our clients were looking for a high-end solution to replace a previous extension to this high-value Grade II listed Georgian property within a conservation area.
Extensive engagement with the conservation officer successfully delivered us a contrasting contemporary piece of architecture which improved the relationship of this family home to its private garden.
What We Did
We initially undertook a review of the existing extension which accommodated additional living space that did not flow coherently with the rest of the house and did not connect meaningfully with the rear garden.
Based upon 3m ceiling heights to the main property we maintained the ceiling line into the newly-relocated kitchen space and incorporated above-standard heights to the wraparound glazing which slides back into the cavity of the external wall. This gave a high quality, elegant living space.
The result
The extension responds to the historic context of both the listed building and the conservation area and enhances both whilst also providing a 21st century living environment.
The design resulted in a superb, contemporary open-plan kitchen / dining space which acts as a conduit between the main house and the garden.
