Overview
The proposed new £26 million Academy at Consett will have, as its foundation, two predecessor schools: Moorside Community Technology College and Consett Community Sports College.
What We Did
These two small 11-16 schools will merge to become a much larger 11-19 Academy with 1500 students aged 11-16 and 200 aged 16-19.
The Academy and the Leisure Centre each have a clearly identified entrance and identity but are read as an overall community facility. The site (which also includes Consett Rugby Club) is visible from nearly every direction and, consequently, the positioning of the building within this context is a very important consideration.
The result
The new Academy will be co-located with a new £14 million Leisure Centre on a new site in Consett, taking full advantage of the opportunities offered by such a co-location in sharing facilities.
