Overview
A property with luxury at its core. A family home developed around an individual family’s needs and living aspirations. A true ‘work hard, play hard’ building.
Base Architects were fortunate enough to assist a developer client with project feasibility, design options and detailed design solutions. This was a project that required a great level of flexibility and proactivity from the base team. Partnered with the client’s eye for detail, the results speak for themselves.
What We Did
With a reduction in levels to the front of the property, a core part of the brief was to incorporate a lower level bespoke garage for a specific vehicle collection.
Based upon the specific vehicle manufacturers’ requirements, gradients were carefully considered in order to give flexibility for the future on choice of vehicles. Within the garage space bespoke lighting, floor finishes and interior décor gave a raw, yet high-end home showroom ambiance. Part of owning a car collection such as this is the environment and space they sit in, not just the driver’s time behind the steering wheel.
Whilst looking to make best use of the levels, wine storage and social spaces were incorporated looking down onto the garage space from a mezzanine position. From parking up the car, our client then makes their way up a specifically designed spiral staircase into a new oak frame orangery. The orangery itself has been positioned centre front of the home, creating a new central core and delivering a more relaxed socialising space. With an elevated view, extensive glazing provides panoramic views over the open countryside.
To the rear of the property the garden kitchen and BBQ spaces incorporate the fantastic views from a higher level that is shaded by mature tree lines. Quieter reading areas evolved into the softer corners of the site for moments of true escapism.
The original home was then extensively modernised throughout via remodelling and interior upgrades to create improved dining spaces and bedroom suites to ensure the home has the right environment for all occasion
The result
With regular on site engagement and visits, the final design solution delivered an improved, more useable, impressive frontage.
Working on such a high end, bespoke scheme required extensive engagement with the team at a very early stage to consider how the proposed property could be developed around its sloping hillside position, a key influencing factor. This approach also gave flexibility in the project and design delivery to understand how the site connected with a multitude of uses whilst making best use of the varied setting.
