This scheme was initially designed by the Client as a contemporary small dwelling which looked to meet Passivhaus requirements.
What We Did
Base Architects were commissioned on the scheme following the previous planning approval. We progressed the development of the detailed building regulations and construction drawing package through to the competitive tender and administration of the Contract during the onsite construction phase of work.
The result
The cranked design and double-storey height living area incorporate full height glazing which looks onto the garden which makes the property feel spacious whilst benefitting from generous amounts of natural daylight.
The building uses only natural materials and is constructed from a double 300mm thick timber frame which contains recycled newspaper as insulation.
An array of solar panels on the zinc mono-pitch roof and automatic ventilation makes the building permanently warm at negligible running costs.
