Overview
Turning tired old homes into super homes of the future! They said it couldn’t be done, but here we are. A contemporary, environmentally friendly, flexible family home that replaced a tired old bungalow in desperate need of modernisation.
Sitting in a location outside of the local plan and settlement boundary, our client called on us to secure planning permission for a replacement home. Through careful engagement and a strategic planning approach, base Architects successfully secured a full, detailed planning permission that not only increased the size of the original home, but also repositioned it and created additional storeys.
What We Did
The design process consisted of a full review of the client’s personal requirements and living aspirations in order to truly ensure that the home we created for them would tick all of the boxes required to provide them with a lifetime home.
Following detailed analysis of the both the existing building, site and local vernacular we then set to work creating a multitude of initial design concepts for consideration and discussion. Through continual engagement and dialogue with our client we the preferred concept naturally presented itself.
On conclusion of a successful planning process with the local authority, Base then produced detailed building regulations and construction drawings as well as managing a competitive tender process. We subsequently worked closely with the successful contractor throughout the build phase, managing the build contract and monitoring workmanship to ensure the client’s vision was delivered.
The result
From a modern open-plan kitchen, living and dining environment that provides views across the open countryside to the rear, a traditional pantry for clean and uncluttered kitchen space through to a full sensory room and sunken trampoline to meet the needs of a family member, each element was uniquely configured to meet the family’s vision of their future home.
The external form of the building incorporated traditional rooflines and proportions that married in with the local vernacular, but included contemporary detailing and the specific use of materials to ensure the home met the highest standards of architectural excellence.
The finished article clearly demonstrates that when you use a team that utilises a bespoke approach that is delivered with passion and experience, excellence can be achieved.
