This project involved extensive remodelling and extension works to an existing building which had a historic use as a local village shop.
Base Architects were engaged to initially develop and progress the concept design and subsequent planning application submission.
What We Did
Following a positive planning approval, we then progressed the development of a building regulations and construction detailing package of works which enabled the clients to run a competitive tender and manage the onsite construction stage independently.
Whilst reviewing the clients brief, and during the development of the initial design, it was key to ensure that the existing form of the dwelling was correctly rationalised without over-complicating the structure which would have incurred additional construction costs.
The site had complicated levels to the rear with a much higher plateau, and it was important to ensure that any design related back to the garden amenity as well as ensuring that as much natural light as possible penetrated into the heart of the property.
The result
The client’s architectural preference was to highlight the original character of the dwelling and marry this with a modern contemporary form, creating a crisp, open-plan internal living environment.
