This project brief consisted of internally remodelling and extending the property to create a contemporary dwelling and open the building up to the views across the river and up to Shrewsbury’s English Bridge.
Overview
The original house was built just after the turn of the Millennium and was purchased by our clients around 2014.
The project brief consisted of internally remodelling and extending the property to create a contemporary dwelling and open the building up to the views across the river and up to Shrewsbury’s English Bridge.
What We Did
Base Architects not only managed the planning application stage of works, but also undertook the building regulations, tender and contract administration – providing a ‘concept to completion’ service for the scheme.
The scheme involved extending the first floor to both improve the master bedroom layout and capture the extensive views of the river.
This also created an overhanging canopy to the ground floor area below. The internal spaces were simplified and the entrance hall benefitted from the introduction of larger windows in order to bring in the views and light.
The result
The flow of the property was simplified and the corridors were reduced in length. As part of the proposal a garden room was also created which was orientated towards the river.
The scheme was put forward for the LABC (Local Authority Building Control) Awards and won at both local and regional level, placing it in the national finals
