Overview
The Shrubbery is a Grade II listed property which had historically suffered from a poor conservatory extension to the rear of the house.
The original layout precluded any direct contact between the kitchen and the garden which made family life difficult in terms of accessibility.
What We Did
Base Architects managed the project from initial concept design through to gaining planning and listed building consent, tendering the scheme, and administration of the onsite construction phase of work.
The result
The proposal sought to remove the poor conservatory and open up the back of the single storey element of the building in order to create a large open plan kitchen diner.
Folding glass doors with a glazed panel that extends up to the roof draws the outside views into space and engages the garden and existing swimming pool, with the original timber frame also being ‘opened up’ internally.
