Overview
Located in a green belt conservation area on the outskirts of Chester, the owners of this attractive family home, formerly part of the Grosvenor Estate, came to us looking to bring their new home into the 21st century.
The property had previously been remodelled in the 60s and whilst in superb condition it was dated, didn’t flow, and was not particularly suitable for modern living requirements.
What We Did
We were engaged initially to review the existing arrangement of the property and improve both its aesthetic and the flow to the key spaces within.
In order to achieve this, and to meet the clients’ brief of incorporating timber cladding into any proposed design, we created a contemporary two-storey extension in contrast to the original dwelling and its traditional features.
This really was a concept to completion project! Having undertaken a pre-planning application with the local planning authority to establish the likelihood of a consent, we then progressed the design to successfully gain a householder planning permission. We were then retained by our clients to undertake the detailed design and to tender the works, before contract administrating the scheme throughout the build stage with the client’s appointed contractor.
The result
The extension houses a new open-plan kitchen, living and dining space at ground floor and master bedroom suite at first floor.
Given the property’s location, specific attention was paid to maximising the surrounding views and introducing additional natural light into the key living spaces.
The result is fabulous with the new large, flat, rooflights positioned above the stairwell and landing creating a truly lovely ambience within the space.
An interesting feature that we incorporated into the design was a dual chimney which provided a focal point not just limited to the inside of the property, but also facilitating an outdoor fireplace, creating a perfect place for outdoor entertaining.
